3 Day Machinery Safety Training

The course has been written to give an introduction, or a refresher, into the key aspects that those involved with machinery may face.

COURSE OBJECTIVE: 

At the end of the course, delegates will:

  • ​Understand the directives and regulations that relate to machinery

  • Understand the safety standards and how they apply to machinery

  • Gain knowledge on the importance of the risk assessment

  • Learn how to control risks within a machine

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:

  • Health and Safety personnel

  • Engineering Managers / Engineering Supervisors

  • Production Managers / Production Supervisors

  • Project Managers / Project Engineers

  • Mechanical / Electrical Engineer

Delegates should have a basic level of understanding health and safety. An understanding of mechanical or electrical disciplines is advantageous.

Course
Content

Day 1​​

  • The risk assessment process and the methodology behind it

  • UKCA / CE Marking process - from the risk assessment stage through to compliance of the essential health and safety requirements. Covers the machinery directive, low voltage directive and other applicable directives.

Day 2

  • Guarding - the guarding principles; the different types, dimension considerations

  • Interlock standard - different types of interlocks, why you have them? Which you should use? And additional considerations

  • Electrical machinery safety - EN 60204-1, common principles that need to applied

  • Safety control systems - EN 13849-1

    • wiring principles

    • the faults that can occur and what can be done to reduce failure 

    • Introduction into the math used to perform the safety calculations, to ensure that the components in a safety control system are fit for purpose.

  • Discussions around the validation and verification stages will also take place and how EN ISO 13849-1 works and fits alongside the other standards and what documentation is required to achieve compliance.

Day 3

  • Practical wiring exercises to support the understanding of safety control systems using our bespoke training rig

  • PUWER - covers all regulations, excluding power presses.

A minimum of 4 delegates is required and the course is delivered at the clients site.
